Conservative-led Hampshire County Council have voted to cut the budget by £80 million. This vote took place on the 18, February, 2022 and the budget is now ironclad for the next two years.

The Tory controlled county council have made cuts across almost all departments to make up for the £80m deficit, with some of the council's reserves also used.

But does that really excuse such a drastic and sharp cut? I don't believe so and particularly when the cost of living and council tax keeps rising...

The UKIP Hampshire Committee called these budget cuts:

"Callous, cold, and particularly negative for the elderly and young adults. Conservative local government only works if you are a wealthy landowner, earn more than £50,000 per annum, or don't mind being provided with fewer services for more money. They couldn't give a damn about young adults trying to get on the housing ladder or the elderly struggling to put food on the table or heat their homes adequately. People like Cllr David Clifford and his cronies are more interested in big business, multinationals, and brown envelopes."

The county council is sitting on reserves of around £754m, but they are more interested in placing the burden on council taxpayers in Hampshire. Why solve a problem yourself when you can get the local people to do it for now?

These budget cuts will hurt everyone in the county and those who are most reliant on council services will suffer even more.
